In mid 2024, I was approached by Draconum Studio, a local author and tabletop game developer, to help finish a set of crowdfunding rewards that needed to go to print. Their campaign had already been successfully funded, but the previous artist had pulled out partway through, so the schedule was tight, and I had roughly five weeks to turn the sculpts around.
The brief was to create two printable miniatures: a dragon and a wyvern. I handled the full pipeline from start to finish, including concept direction, sculpting, and final posing, then delivered clean STL files ready for 3D printing. Although the models were intended to be printed at around 5cm tall, I still pushed the surface detail hard, right down to individually sculpted skin scales and layered forms that would hold up in print and look great once painted.
My work on the project included:
Designing the dragon and wyvern silhouettes and proportions for a tabletop-mini read
High-detail sculpting with print-friendly forms and edges
Posing each creature for a strong “display” stance and clear silhouette
Exporting and delivering final STL files ready for production printing
Although a (self-imposed) gruelling march to get the job done in time, I did enjoy getting back to doing some 3D sculpting in 3D Coat 🙂
